| John was born in the small historic southern town of Natchez Mississippi in the mid 1950's. |
| It was in the late 1960's when John was in Jr. High School that he caught a devastating virus that was going around at the time. |
| This virus, DJF, was affecting some of John's closest friends. But, John had a case of it far much worse than anyone else. The virus is called "Disc Jockey Fever" and there is only one cure...get into radio! At first John had his own radio station in his basement, complete with a wall heater that John used as a reverb unit. He placed a speaker at the top of the unit and a microphone at the bottom. Boy did that sound good! John got his first radio job in 1969 at WNAT and WQNZ-FM in Natchez. John also worked for WMIS as the afternoon drive announcer while in High School. |
| In 1972 John went on to college at Mississippi State University to major in Communications. While in college he worked the morning show at WKOR in Starkville Mississippi. Later John became Program Director at WSSO, also in Starkville. |
| In 1976 John moved on to Jackson Mississippi and took a job as Midday Air Personality and Production Director at WJDX, the most listened to radio station in the state! |
| In 1979 John was offered a Program Director job back in Starkville Mississippi at WSSO and WSMU FM. He took it but a few months later John was hired at WHKW in Fayette Alabama and later became Program Director. The station was physically located in Kennedy and served Tuscaloosa, Al and Columbus, MS. It was a 120 mile round trip to work and back, but that's just one of the symptoms of "DJF" and John managed to do that for 2 years. He did consider hopping the train every now and then! |
| After tiring of driving so much, John moved on to Pensacola Florida in 1981 to work the Midday shift at WOWW 107. He eventually became Assistant Program Director and Music Director there. John worked for WOWW for 11 years and was in Pensacola for 21 years working at various radio stations including WXBM, WWRO and COOL 107. It was in 1982 while in Pensacola, John started providing voice overs for ad agencies. He operated a successful business called "Real to Reel Audio Productions" voicing and producing award winning commercials for radio and television. |
| In 2002, John and his wife Ann decided to head to the mountains of North Carolina. John continued to have problems with his seemingly incurable illness, DJF, and continued to work at radio stations KICKS 103.3 in Lenoir and WOXL in Asheville. |
| Finally, in 2007, John's illness subsided and now he is free of Disc Jockey Fever. He operates his business "John Weeks Audio" out of his home studio in the hills of East Tennessee. |
